Kimberly Johnson: Chairman of CCAJN: Obtained a BA in Psychology at Allegheny College, Meadville, PA ; and her MA in Counseling Psychology from Loyola College, Baltimore, MD. She is a practicing real estate agent with a varied professional background. She worked as a Family and Youth Counseling Specialist for the State of New York and was the first Substance Abuse, Sexual Abuse and Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the Webster (NY) Central School District. A resident of Hampton Roads since 1986, she served as the first Coordinator of Youth Services for the City of Chesapeake and was a Board Member of Elizabeth Manor Country Club, Portsmouth, VA.
John Shick, Capt., USN (Ret.) Past Immediate Chairman (1998 – 2003): Earned BS in Electrical Engineering (Michigan State Univ.) and MS in Geodesy (Ohio State Univ.). Commissioned in 1967; subsequently qualified as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Diver and Special Operations Officer. Participated in clearance of unexploded ordnance from Suez Canal (NIMBUS MOON) and, as a Task Unit Commander during DESERT STORM, directed the clearance of unexploded ordnance from five Kuwaiti ports. Served on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations; responsibilities included Conventional Ammunition and Nuclear Weapons Safety. Subsequently served as Commanding Officer, EOD Mobile Unit TWO (Ft. Story, VA) and Commander, EOD Group ONE (San Diego, CA). His last tour of duty was as Commanding Officer, Naval Weapons Station Earle (Colts Neck, NJ) where he performed additional duties as Senior Inspector on ordnance safety inspection teams. He retired in 1997 after over 30 years of naval service.
Herbert Stokely, Treasurer: Former Navy pilot, rose to the rank of Lt. Commander. Retired Navy Civilian Manager at NADEP, a Norfolk facility that repaired and serviced F-14 and other Navy aircraft, until it was closed by the BRAC Commission…He is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. A resident of Virginia Beach for over 35 years, he has been a close neighbor of NAS Oceana for over 30 of those.
Tom Askins: Designated Naval Aviator 1962. Flew with Patrol Squadron twenty-four (V-P 24), NAS Norfolk, 1963-1966. Joined TWA in l966 and flew as a Flight Engineer on the Convair 880, Boeing 707, & Boeing 727. Checked out on the 707, 727, DC-9, and 1.1101 in the capacity as a First Officer. Flew the Boeing 727 as a Captain. A graduate of Florida State University with a BS degree in Business.
Allan R. Johnson, Esquire Practiced law in the State of Connecticut, now retired. He is a past member of the Greater Bridgeport Regional Planning Agency; also a past Chairman of the Board of the Southport Conservancy. He is a biography in Marquis Who’s Who in American Law. Johnson is a graduate of Wesleyan University and received his law degree from the University of Virginia.
Al Saferstein: Founder of four product development companies, with emphasis in medical, consumer, and leisure time markets. Developed over 40 products and received over 18 United State and Foreign patents. Licensor of consumer and medical products to major companies, including Pfizer, Burroughs Welcome, Schering Plough, and others. Environmental products include co-developer of the first water based aerosol hairspray in the U.S. Cited in the New York Times and weekly patent reviews. M. S. University of Tampa, Masters studies at Hunter College, where he focused on adaptive, educational, and remedial devices for the physically handicapped.
Mona G. Saferstein: Received her BS, Boston University, did graduate study at Hunter College. Former teacher, salesperson, and Corporate Executive Officer. Since moving to Virginia, she has become Co-President of Virginia Beach Hadassah. Hadassah is the largest women’s organization in America and raises funds for medical research, education, and humanitarian rights. As VP -Education, she created and executed an Annual Health Symposium for Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Norfolk residents, in conjunction With Bon Secours and Sentara Norfolk Hospitals. A docent at both the Marine Science Museum and the Norfolk Botanical Garden, she is a Master Gardener….
